This Sunday, 7th September, will be a landmark day in the history of Smiths Rugby. For the very first time since the club’s formation in 1952, a Smiths team outside of the men’s senior ranks will take to the field, as the newly formed Smiths Rugby Under-15s host Ross-on-Wye Under-15s in their debut fixture.

The fixture marks a significant milestone in the club’s history, as the Under-15s prepare to launch into their first full season of competitive rugby. The team has already been drawn into the top division of the Gloucestershire Under-15 leagues, where they will face strong opposition in the form of Bredon Star, Brockworth, Coney Hill, Old Cryptians, and Stroud.

Sunday’s friendly against Ross-on-Wye will provide an important first step, giving the players a chance to come together in match conditions and test themselves ahead of the season ahead. For many of the squad, it will be their first opportunity to represent Smiths Rugby in competitive action, and the club is proud to see its Junior Section making such a positive start.

Head Coach Duncan Simpson said:

“This is a fantastic moment for the club. The players have worked really hard in training, and Sunday will be a chance to show what they can do on the pitch. We know it will be a tough season with some strong sides in our league, but the focus is on learning, improving, and enjoying playing rugby together.”

The launch of the Junior Section reflects the growth and ambition of Smiths Rugby, and the club is excited to see the Under-15s lead the way as the first of many junior teams to represent the Smiths colours.

Kick-off against Ross-on-Wye is scheduled for Sunday morning at the Prince of Wales Stadium, and all supporters are welcome to come along and cheer on the team in their debut outing.
